Athena Rigas is an artist born and raised in New York. She started her BFA studying Painting and Illustration at the Maryland Institute college of Art in Baltimore, Maryland. She finished her degree studying Fine Arts at Parsons School of Design in New York, New York. Her work is biographical; all of her paintings are her regurgitation of her friends, family, life experiences, and surroundings. Her work is so genuine that it is grotesque, her figures are painted with thick erroneous lines, submerged in chaotic domestic environments that digest the figures. When her work is not a direct influence from her life, it is biographical of the emotional landscape within.
